Description
Kyra-Panagia beach is located on the east coast of Karpathos about 17 km from Pigadia in the settlement of Volada. It took its name from the church of Kyra Panagia that dominates the beach and is a popular destination for weddings and baptisms. Kyra-Panagia beach is one of the most photographed beaches in Greece, since its clear blue waters in combination with the white sand and pebbles, create an exotic landscape. The story says that, during the Greek Revolution, after the “Holocaust of Kassos”, the fighter Antonios Kriezis, who was sailing in Karpathos, had anchored his boat in this bay. In the church, however, a wedding took place and the couple took out the double row with the gold coins that the bride wore, together with the money they had collected as gifts and offered to Kriezis for the Liberation Struggle.
